Volleyball off to a good start

The Lady Mustangs volleyball team has had a respectable season thus far and has started to gain some momentum after the Labor Day tournament in Henderson, Tenn. The team’s success hasn’t gone unnoticed as three of the Lady Mustangs have been nominated for the conference’s player of the week.

The team has had some tough games recently with every individual having a chance to show their class on the court.

Senior Mikayla Lawrence, the defensive specialist, has been described as “a dedicated player that possesses great technical skills and inspirational effort” by teammates.

Junior Brooke Schmitz said that Crowley’s Ridge College and Missouri Baptist University have been “our toughest game of the season, even though we didn’t win either [game], seeing us compete for each point gives me hope for a more successful test of the season.”

Senior Mallory Gossett explained how the team is looking forward mostly to the games against Champion Christian College and Missouri Baptist, “Simply for the fact that they are ranked above us.”

The team fancies their chances against both as Gossett believes there is a chance the Lady Mustangs can “go toe to toe” with both programs.

The Lady Mustangs are scheduled to play away at Champion Christian. The Lady Mustangs then follow that game at home the day after where they take on Dallas Christian College. Finally, the team starts conference play against Columbia and Hannibal to close out the month of September.
