Out of context: Jeremiah 29:11

As a senior in college there are many different emotions you may feel throughout your senior year. A few of the emotions you may feel could include excitement, anxiety, contentment, thankfulness, loneliness and worry, along with many more.

Graduating is a bittersweet feeling. You are excited to take on the world and to be able to say that you have accomplished something difficult. On the other hand, you are sad to be leaving your friends, and may not know what is next in your life.

A verse that can really help you through this last year of college is Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’”

This verse says everything you need to know about our awesome God. He loves us and will never leave our side. He has your future and plans in his hands and these plans are not to harm us but to draw us near to him, which is where you will  truly prosper.

For those of you who may not believe in God and are about to graduate, you can still gather some encouragement from this verse. What you can learn is that there is a purpose for everything and although you may not believe that God is guiding that purpose, you can know that no matter what you choose to do after college, treat others with kindness, have integrity and work hard. Do something you enjoy and put effort into it!

But know that there is a God who has a purpose for our lives and has laid it out for us in his word. Our purpose is to glorify him and to share the gospel with everyone around us.

No matter what you do after college, make sure that you are glorifying him and trying to become more like his perfect son, Jesus, every single day. You can find so much peace in knowing God’s purpose for your life and knowing that you can go to his word to remind yourself of his promises. This is true for the believer and nonbeliever! So if you don’t believe in Christ, I pray that you come to have a relationship with him and to trust him with your future!
