Maggie’s mind: for you page

Maggie’s mind: for you page

Social media has been around since the late 1990s, in some form or fashion. It obviously wasn’t like the social media we have today. With social media today, there are algorithms that show you things you want to see. That’s what a For You Page is or more widely known as a FYP.

This is a way your phone kind’ve listens to you. If you talk to someone about wanting to watch some certain movie, then clips of that movie are going to be on your feed. If you talk aloud about wanting food, you’re going to get more food ads than normal. Every phone has a built-in microphone. It records almost all of the time, it just isn’t saved. There is a sort of algorithm software that probably processes what you say to then show you things that you talked about. A FYP is any personalized content that shows a user things they enjoy based on their browsing history, likes, and other engagement patterns. It’s custom designed to keep us entertained and enthralled with our phones.

I wanted to analyze what I get on my FYP. It’s taken a lot of work for my page to get where it is, specifically with TikTok since I don’t really watch Instagram reels. I had to dislike things or say I wasn’t interested in them if I didn’t want to see it. If you watch a video for even a couple of seconds, your algorithm will likely give you more of that same type of thing.

On my FYP, I have a lot of random recipes for high protein meals/meal prep, dancing videos from LA influencers, funny pranks and a little bit of Mom-tok (Moms on Tiktok). A big thing on my FYP is different Christian influencers or people telling their testimony. A lot of the biblical things on my feed remind me to put away my phone and turn to God when I’m bored instead of doom scrolling. If I do meaningless things to fill my time, I feel further from the Lord. If I’m intentional with my extra time, I feel like he’s proud of me for prioritizing him over other things when it should just be the bare minimum.
