The CBC men’s cross country team competed at the Little Rock Invitational on Oct. 13. The team of runners finished 13th overall, but their top finisher was freshman Cade Griffith, posting a time of 30 minutes and 28.2 seconds.
Freshman Keegan Conway had the second fastest time on the team, finishing with a time of 31:13.7.
“It was tough, but overall I think it was a good meet. I think it’s going to make us stronger as a team going into conference,” Conway said.
Freshman Aidan Ratliff finished with a time of 38:09.2 and said that the course was pretty flat which made the race easy.
“I did pretty good. It was a pretty competitive meet, but I got a personal record,” Ratliff said.
Cezar Terlea, head men’s & women’s cross country coach, said that there were a lot of division one schools competing and feels that the team did well for being one of the only NAIA schools at the meet.
“Something that we can improve on is running as a team and staying together,” Terlea said.
The CBC women’s cross country team also competed that day and finished 19th overall. The top finisher of the team was freshman Ally Swaim who finished 112th with a time of 22 minutes and 21 seconds.
Junior Averi Ratliff was another competitor among the runners who posted a time of 23:29.3. She felt that this was her best race so far in the season.
“The hardest part of every race for me is waiting at the line for the gun to go off to start the race,” Ratliff said. “I hate that part [because] it stresses me out.”
Freshman Courtney Rife posted a time of 27:20.6. She thinks she did pretty well for the season.
“I think I did pretty good, not the time that I was hoping for, but fairly good for the season,” Rife said. “I need to work on my pacing and not stopping as much.”
