In May, Blake Duffield, assistant professor of history, held an interest meeting for students who were interested in a studying abroad program.
Duffield is proposing taking a select group of students to Europe in the summer of 2019.
Duffield is planning two trip options. The first is a two-week trip to Rome, Venice, Paris and London as a part of a European study tour. The second is a 10-day trip to London, Canterbury, Oxford and Edinburgh as a part of a British Isles tour.
Student requirements to study abroad include
- Completing at least two semesters of college
- Having a 2.5 GPA or better
- Being in good standing with the college
- Being able to provide three references
- Being in good health, having the ability to walk long distances and carry own luggage
- Having a positive attitude and the willingness to respectfully follow direction of tour leaders
- Having the financial resources to fund the trip
- Attending all required meetings
The cost for the trips will be between $3,000 and $4,500 depending on which trip is selected by Duffield.
Duffield mentioned a few ways students can plan ahead for these trips during the interest meeting.
“It’s a great idea whenever you have any kind of big decisions like this to bring those before the Lord,” said Duffield.
- Start the process for getting a passport. If a student already has one, make sure to check the expiration date.
“If you think that there’s [any] chance that you might do this, go ahead and get your passport,” said Duffield. “The general rule of thumb is to make sure your passport is good at least six months after your planned date of return.”
